As you're reading this, Centastage's fab comedic four -- Jan Davidson, John Kuntz, Rick Park and Julie Perkins -- are putting pen to paper, (and digits to laptops), creating new ways to amuse you during the holidays. Lord knows the music, monologue, and melodrama will provide a welcome alternative to bingeing on fruitcake and bickering with your relatives.

This quirky cabaret is like a strong cup of spiked eggnog with its quick uplifting jolt. Centastage should make this celebration of Boston-area talent a tradition.

How can you warm up a March Sunday, Monday or Tuesday evening? The Centastage Performance group invites you to order a cocktail and celebrate an early Spring with Boston Sings Boston Redux, a cabaret of new songs written by local songwriters and performed by some of Boston's best musical theater performers. Buoyed by the success of last year's cabaret, the all-new show will feature 21 songs by 16 songwriters. Boston Sings Boston Redux will be performed by Melinda Stanford, Sean Roper, Frank Gayton and pianist Tim Evans. The show is directed by Artistic Director Joe Antoun with musical direction by Tim Evans. This year's show is a steady mix of comic, show, ballad and love songs with a variety of themes including Boston drivers. Each night a different guest vocalist will join the trio and sing a selection of your favorite standards and soon to be classics in a feisty melange of old and new. Guest singers include Kerry Dowling (Batboy), Maryann Zschau (Dirty Blonde), Brad Peloquin (Moby Dick), Leigh Barrett (Passion) and last year's dynamic duo Jon Blackstone (Class Act) and Gregory Bouchard (Violet).

Boston Sings Boston Redux will be performed for eight nights only at the newly remodeled Club Cabaret at Club Café, 209 Columbus Avenue on Boston's South End. Tickets are $23-25. A cash bar and cabaret menu will be available for your enjoyment. For tickets call 1-800-595-4TIX (1-800-595-4849) or press the button.

With its cadre of talented performers and well chosen material, Centastage's Boston Sings Boston is surely something to sing about. Not a weak number in the bunch.

Le Salon Littéraire
January-May, 2003
Sponsored by Flora Restaurant
Flora,
190 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington

The Marquise de Rambouillet called. She won't be able to make it. But who cares? She's so 17th century. This is a 21st century literary salon, so turn off your cell phones and prepare to offer your artistic input on four plays in development. First, take a front row velvet chaise for a winter reading (the hors d'oeuvres and libations are on us). Then take advantage of one of life's few socially sanctioned opportunities to offer feedback. Based on your comments, the playwright will rework the script and Centastage will present it as a staged reading for the general public in May at Boston Playwrights Theater. The script will also be considered for a full production. Will it make the cut? Stay tuned. Further information will arrive in your mailbox.
